The UNC Basketball team will now take on Kentucky on Saturday in the CBS Sports Classic in Cleveland following a schedule change

There’s been a big schedule change for the UNC Basketball program this weekend.

Originally, North Carolina and Ohio State were set to square off in the CBS Sports Classic in Cleveland as part of a double header also featuring Kentucky and UCLA. However, things have changed in this weird 2020-21 season as teams battle the COVID-19 pandemic.

UNC will still take the court on Saturday afternoon in Cleveland but instead they will now be facing the Wildcats. The program announced the decision on Wednesday afternoon as tipoff will still be at the same time.

UNC will enter this game at 4-2 overall, with their latest win being a close one over NC Central last Saturday. Meanwhile, Kentucky is unranked after a 1-4 start including a loss to Notre Dame last Saturday at home.

The move was made on Wednesday to more closely align COVID-19 testing protocols between programs and their respective conferences. UCLA and Ohio State will now meet in the late game on Saturday afternoon.

This will be the first time since 2018 that the Tar Heels and Wildcats have met, doing so in the CBS Sports Classic in Chicago. Kentucky got the best of a young North Carolina team that season and now the Tar Heels are hoping for some revenge.

UNC is 4-2 in the CBS Sports classic with beating UCLA and Ohio State each twice while losing their only two games against the Wildcats. The event has three of the four winningest programs in college basketball history as they have combined for 26 national championships.

This will be the final non-conference game of the season for the Tar Heels as they begin ACC play next week.
