Former UNC basketball standout and Chicago Bulls point guard Coby White shines in exhibition game

Second-year point guard Coby White led the Chicago Bulls in scoring on Wednesday night when he poured in 27 points in a 124-103 exhibition victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

It’s the second time in three games to begin the 2020-21 campaign that White has led his team in scoring after recording a team-high 15 points against the Houston Rockets on December 11. He followed that up with a 20-point encore performance against the Rockets two nights later.

Perhaps the most impressive part of his performance on Wednesday night was that he did it in just three quarters — 28 total minutes — and managed to notch 18 points in the third quarter alone. He hit 11-of-17 shots for the game, including 5-of-8 from three-point range. He added five rebounds and three assists in a game that has general managers and fantasy owners again wondering why they didn’t select him sooner in their respective drafts.

White is averaging nearly 21 points per game on 53.4 percent shooting from the floor and 57.8 from beyond the arc. Sure, it’s a small sample size, but those are impressive numbers to say the least. If nothing else, White seems to be proving exactly why he should be in the Bulls’ starting lineup every single day. With performances like these, though, he shouldn’t have any problem remaining there for the long haul, especially with former head coach Jim Boylen gone and Billy Donovan now at the helm.
