The UNC Basketball program is one of six teams to be in consistent contact with this four-star recruit in the 2022 class

Roy Williams and his UNC Basketball staff continue to monitor future recruiting classes including the 2022 cycle. The Tar Heels have two recruits signed for the 2021 class but have yet to earn a commitment in 2022.

There shouldn’t be any panic, however, as there is still a long ways to go for that 2022 recruiting cycle. The good news is that Williams does have a few offers out to recruits and is starting to show significant interest in others in that class.

The latest player to reveal that UNC is showing interest is four-star power forward Julian Phillips, a South Carolina native that currently has 22 offers in his recruitment. But while Phillips has received interest from those 22 programs, others are starting to get more and more involved.

That includes UNC.

Phillips sat down with Travis Branham of 247 Sports to provide an update on his recruitment thus far and revealed some new teams getting involved. He told Branham that there are six teams he talks to regularly, including UNC, specifically on Thursdays where he calls it “Tar Heel Thursdays”. Take a look at what he said below:

"“The recruiting process is going good,” he said. “I talk to a lot of coaches usually throughout the week. The schools that I probably talk to the most often are Ohio State, Florida State, Clemson, Iowa State, Kansas and I hear from UNC once every week on Tar Heel Thursdays.”"

Phillips went on to break down what each program was telling him in the recruiting process and mentioned that Steve Robinson is leading the way. The recruit says that UNC loves his game both on offense and defense.

I’m also not sure what “Tar Heel Thursdays” are but if I had to guess, I’d imagine that’s usually the day of the week Williams and his staff reach out to Phillips.

The 6-foot-8 and 200-pound Phillips is ranked No. 33 overall, No. 7 power forward and the No. 1 player in the state of South Carolina per the 247 Sports recruiting rankings. With UNC involved but yet to offer, one could be on the way for Phillips.

He’s certainly a player to keep your eyes on during this recruiting cycle.
