UNC Football: Javonte Williams breaks Tar Heels’ record
By Zack Pearson
Running back Javonte Williams set a new UNC Football record on Saturday afternoon as the Tar Heels ran all over Miami
UNC Football running back Javonte Williams has been a treat to watch over his three seasons with the Tar Heels, bursting onto the scene last season with an impressive sophomore campaign.
This year has been nothing less as Williams has elevated his game to a whole new level, getting some respect and attention from scouts. As it stands now, Williams is in the conversation to be RB2 or RB3 for the 2021 NFL Draft and is doing so while splitting reps with his teammate Michael Carter.
Together the duo have been fantastic in UNC’s backfield and in their big win over Miami on Saturday, they made history. The duo combined to rush for 544 yards which is the most by teammates in FBS history. But not only did they do that in the big win, but Williams made some history of his own.
Williams found the end zone three times in the win vs. Miami, rushing for 236 yards on 23 carries.
With those three touchdowns, Williams now has 22 touchdowns on the season passing Don McCauley for most touchdowns scored in a single season for the program:
Williams is up to 1,376 rushing yards on the season and has been a huge factor in North Carolina’s offense all season long with his tough running style. He meshes well with his fellow backfield teammate Carter who is more of a speed runner, giving the Tar Heels a legit 1-2 combo back there.
With just one game left, this could be the final time we see Williams suit up for the Tar Heels as he’s very likely headed to the NFL with his rising stock.
