The UNC Basketball program has added a new game to their schedule ahead of a showdown with Ohio State next week

With the COVID-19 pandemic still hitting the country and coming in a new wave, this college basketball season is unlike any other. And now the UNC Basketball program is finding that out first hand.

The Tar Heels are 3-2 through their first five games of the season and while the Maui Invitational went on as planned in Asheville, UNC has already had one game cancelled this season as their matchup with Elon didn’t happen a few weeks ago. Without a true exhibition schedule and a limited practice schedule, a young team like UNC needs all the minutes they can get.

UNC is coming off a tough loss at No. 3 Iowa but were scheduled to have just one game left of non-conference action.

As UNC waits to play Ohio State on December 19th, the program announced that they have actually added a game to the schedule. The Tar Heels announced that they have added N.C. Central to their schedule for Saturday, December 12th with a 2 p.m. ET start:

The game will be played in the Dean Dome and will be broadcasted on a Regional Sports Network, depending on your area.

Getting that extra game in is huge for the Tar Heels as they don’t have to wait now 10+ days until their next game. More importantly, it gives the Tar Heels another chance to hit the court and earn some minutes together. With UNC’s struggles on offense early this year, they really need the extra games to work some kinks out.
