UNC Basketball: Tar Heels fall a few spots in AP Top 25
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Basketball program fell two spots in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll that was released on Monday afternoon
After four games including three at the Maui Invitational, the UNC Basketball program sits at 3-1 on the year but has a tough matchup coming up this week.
UNC’s lone loss came last Wednesday on a last second shot to Texas, a tough opponent that was a big test for the Tar Heels. But as UNC prepares for a trip to Iowa they received their updated ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll.
With the loss, UNC dropped two spots from No. 14 to No. 16 in the latest AP Top 25 poll that was released on Monday afternoon.
That means it will be No. 16 UNC at No. 3 Iowa on Tuesday night for a ACC/Big Ten Challenge showdown. The Hawkeyes stayed put at No. 3 with their 3-0 record led by All-American candidate Luka Garza. But Tuesday’s game will be the toughest test for both programs to date.
Gonzaga stayed put at No. 1 followed by No. 2 Baylor, No. 3 Iowa, No. 4 Michigan State and No. 5 Kansas. The Spartans moved into the Top 5 after beating Duke while Kansas also climbed a few spots after dropping last week.
Duke dropped four spots to No. 10 after their loss to Michigan State but are still the highest-ranked ACC team. No. 15 Virginia Tech, No. 16 UNC, No. 18 Virginia, No. 20 Florida State and No. 25 Louisville round out the ACC schools that are ranked this week.
