UNC Football: Tar Heels climb back into AP Top 25 Poll
By Zack Pearson
The Tar Heels moved up a few spots in the latest AP Top 25 poll that was released on Sunday afternoon after beating WCU
With just one regular season game remaining for the UNC Football program, a lot is on the line in terms of their postseason bowl. After beating Western Carolina on Saturday, UNC should see a slight jump in the latest College Football Playoff rankings releasing on Tuesday as they currently sit at No. 17.
But before that, they received a boost in another poll.
The Tar Heels climbed back into the Associated Press Top 25 poll on Sunday following their big win over Western Carolina at Kenan on Sunday. The Tar Heels moved from unranked to No. 20 in the latest polls.
UNC has been in and out of the poll in the past three weeks, dropping out last week after losing to Notre Dame.
Alabama retained the top spot this week followed by Notre Dame, Clemson and Ohio State as the Top 4 remained the same. The Top 10 hardly had any big moves in it as No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 6 Florida, No.7 Cincinnati, No. 8 Indiana, No. 9 Miami and No. 10 Iowa State round out the poll.
While being in the AP Top 25 poll is big, the important poll right now is the College Football Playoff rankings. UNC needs to jump Miami to have a shot at the Orange Bowl, with both Notre Dame and Clemson making the playoff. It’s possible but UNC will likely need a convincing win over the Hurricanes this weekend.
The Tar Heels were also ranked No. 20 in the latest coaches poll that was released on Sunday morning. They will keep their eyes on the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday to see hopefully and increase there as well.
