UNC Basketball: Antawn Jamison elected to NABC Collegiate Hall of Fame
Former UNC basketball star and National Player of the Year Antwan Jamison has been elected to the NABC Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.
Former University of North Carolina standout Antawn Jamison is one of six players and two coaches that have been elected to the NABC Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame class of 2021. The unanimous 1998 National Player of the Year spent three seasons with the Tar Heels before a professional career that spanned 16 seasons with the Warriors, Mavericks, Wizards, Cavaliers, Lakers and Clippers.
Jamison, who earned first team All-Conference honors in each of his three seasons at North Carolina, is joined by Bradley’s Hersey Hawkins, Kansas forward Paul Pierce, UCLA’s David Greenwood, Jim Jackson of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the late Len Bias of Maryland. Former Belmont head coach Rick Byrd and former Houston front man Tom Penders are also among the 2021 class inductees.
The six honorees will be officially enshrined in November 2021 in Kansas City at the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Induction Celebration.
Jamison averaged 22.2 points and 10.5 rebounds in his decorated junior season at North Carolina. He scored the second-most points in UNC history that season (822), and pulled down a UNC record 389 rebounds to become the first Tar Heel to average a double-double in better than two decades. His terrific junior campaign earned him a handful of prestigious awards that season including ACC Player of the Year, consensus first team All-ACC and National Player of the Year and ACC Male Athlete of the Year.
Jamison retired from professional basketball in 2014, and has worked as a broadcaster and scout In the years since.
