The UNC Football program has reached back out to a three-star defensive end in the 2021 recruiting class after he committed to South Carolina

Mack Brown and the UNC Football team appear to be on the verge of breaking out after taking No. 1 Clemson to the wire last year and hanging (for the most part) with No. 2 Notre Dame just a day ago.

Future recruiting classes will be key for the Tar Heels to turn the corner and Brown has a good one coming in next year. Even with a top 20 class currently, UNC could add more to that class and boost it up a bit. Back in July, UNC missed out on three-star defensive end George Wilson as he turned them down for South Carolina. But now, the Tar Heels have another chance at landing him.

Following the firing of Will Muschamp, Wilson has elected to decommit from South Carolina and reopen his recruitment. Just days after he did so, several teams including the Tar Heels reached out to the recruit.

Brian Dohn of 247 Sports wrote on Wilson’s recruitment with him decommitting last weekend and revealed just what teams have reached out to him so far:

"The Virginia Beach (Va.) Green Run standout decommitted from the Gamecocks following the firing of coach Will Muschamp on Sunday. Auburn, TCU, Penn State, N.C. State, North Carolina, Florida State, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech are among the schools to be in touch about Wilson in the last few days."

The Tar Heels were a legit candidate to land Wilson during his first recruitment over the Summer as they had hoped to add another piece to their defense. But many were shocked when South Carolina landed the Virginia native which for then ended his recruitment.

UNC would still love to land Wilson and them being in contact right away shows their interest is back. Landing Wilson would improve UNC’s class and give them some more depth at a big position of need.

Wilson is ranked No. 356 overall, No. 23 at defensive end and No. 9 in the state of Virginia per the 247 Sports recruiting rankings.
