UNC Basketball: Will Tar Heels introduce new Navy alternate uniform?

The UNC Basketball program will reportedly get a new alternate uniform for the upcoming 2020-21 college basketball season

There’s no debating that the UNC Basketball program has one of the most iconic uniform combinations in college basketball history.

The Carolina Blue and White combo is recognized everywhere and is a thing of beauty as “North” and “Carolina” warp around the number on the front. Both the home and away uniforms are trimmed with argyle on the side and are a classic for any sports fan.

Over the past few years we have seen the Tar Heels go with a few different looks for select games including throwback uniforms, special alternates designed by Nike and even some odd “Big Logo” uniforms they have sported, most recently against Duke. But there could be a new uniform in the rotation soon.

According to Sportslogos.net, the Tar Heels are likely to be adding a third alternate jersey which will be primarily a navy colorway:

"The North Carolina men’s basketball program will introduce a new navy blue alternate uniform into the rotation this season, sources tell SportsLogos.net.The navy blue uniforms follow the same template as the Tar Heels’ home white and road Carolina blue sets, with an arched wordmark and argyle stripes down the side. It mimics the football team’s navy alternate, with Carolina blue numerals outlined in white."

UNC’s alternates over the years have been interesting to say the least. We have seen a black colorway, camo, silver, and others but now they will reportedly add navy into the rotation.

There is no official word on when they will introduce these uniforms or when they even will wear them. With the season starting in a few days, we have to imagine an announcement or reveal is on the horizon. Then again, it is 2020, so it could come at any given moment.
