Undrafted guard Devon Dotson will team up with Coby White as he has signed with the Chicago Bulls following the 2020 NBA Draft

It wasn’t that long ago that guards Coby White and Devon Dotson were battling it out to be the top high school basketball player in the state of North Carolina. Both were also UNC Basketball recruiting targets at the time.

When White went on to commit to the Tar Heels back in the Summer of 2016, it essentially took UNC out of the running for Dotson. Despite having a three-man class, the Tar Heels were no long a legit option for the guard as he eventually committed to Kansas.

Dotson originally grew up in Chicago before moving to North Carolina and playing his high school ball at Providence Day School. He and White met a few times on the court during their careers but never at the college level.

Dotson did end up being the top-ranked player in the state per the 247 Sports recruiting rankings and developed a little friendly rivalry with White. The two were both standouts at their schools and kept in touch over time and now they will have the chance to play as teammates at the next level.

After Dotson went undrafted in Wednesday’s 2020 NBA Draft, he quickly signed with his hometown team, the Chicago Bulls, joining their rebuilding movement and teaming up with White:

While White played just one season in Chapel Hill for the Tar Heels, he was selected with the No. 7 overall pick in the 20219 NBA Draft. Dotson will have to take a different route, playing two seasons with Kansas and going undrafted.

However, with Chicago looking to change the culture and build a winning program, Dotson could be a steal as a undrafted prospect and find himself playing alongside White at the United Center.
