For the second-straight day, the UNC Basketball program has cracked the Top 8 for a guard but this time it’s the 2021 recruiting class

Five star combo guard Hunter Sallis is the top remaining target for the UNC Basketball program in their 2021 recruiting class as he’s become the one recruit the team really needs to land.

After UNC has lost out on a few recruits over the past few months, Sallis has become the primary target for Roy Williams and his staff. On Monday, Sallis provided a big update to his recruitment as he officially trimmed his list of programs from 12 down to just 8.

Sallis tweeted out that he will focus on his final eight of North Carolina, Kentucky, Gonzaga, Iowa State, Kansas, Oregon, Creighton and UCLA:

It’s not a shocker by any means to see the Tar Heels make Sallis’ final eight as they have been one of the favorites in his recruitment for months now. Even with this list of eight schools many believe this recruitment is coming down to a pair of Blue Blood programs.

The latest rumblings surrounding Sallis have him leaning towards Kentucky with the Tar Heels right there on UK’s heels (no pun intended). While UNC isn’t considered the team to beat in this race, they are still in it and have the chance to makeup some ground.

This has been a relatively quiet recruitment so far with this being the biggest update in months for Sallis. Don’t expect him to announce anytime soon, either. This is expected to drag into the Spring for the talented guard.

The five-star recruit is ranked No. 7 overall, No. 2 at his position and the No. 1 player in the state of Nebraska per the 247 Sports recruiting rankings.
