Three Tar Heels football players have earned ACC Player of the Week honors for their big win over Wake Forest on Saturday

The UNC Football program got back on track Saturday with a big second-half comeback to beat Wake Forest and improve to 6-2 on the year.

It was a back-and-forth scoring battle early on but the Tar Heels fell behind early in the second half as Wake Forest built a 21-point lead. But then the Tar Heels turned it on, scoring 35 unanswered points to take a 59-45 lead.

Wake would add another touchdown late but the Tar Heels were able to hold on and take home the 59-53 win.ย

In the win, the Tar Heels had an offensive outburst and now three players are being honored for it.

Quarterback Sam Howell, running back Michael Carter and wide receiver Dazz Newsome all were named Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Week. The trio all had big days and are now being honored for it.

Howell completed 32-of-45 passes and set a program single-game records for passing yards with 550 and touchdown passes with six. The 550 passing yards were also the third-highest in a game in ACC history.

This is the second time in three weeks Howell has won the award.

Carter finished the game with 150 total all-purpose yards and had a 46-yard touchdown reception late in the game. Newsome finished the game with 10 receptions and a career high 189 receiving yards while adding two receiving touchdowns. It was the best game of Newsomeโ€™s season after heโ€™s been slowed down a bit.

The Tar Heels will hit their bye week before returning to the field and hosting Notre Dame the day after Thanksgiving.
