UNC Football quarterback Sam Howell breaks school record on his way to Spotlight Of The Week Honors.

North Carolina is now sitting at 6-2 after a comeback win over Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels found themselves down 45-31 against the Demon Deacons before sophomore quarterback Sam Howell led the comeback in the second half.

Carolina scored 28 points in the 4th quarter to win the high scoring affair 59-53 with Howell picking apart the defense throughout and breaking records while doing so.

Howell ended up completing 32 for 45 passes for 550 yards, 6 passing touchdowns, and 1 rushing touchdown. This performance ended up putting Howell’s name in UNC’s football record books by being the only quarterback in school history to throw for 500 yards in a single game.

The 550-yard passing performance tied for 3rd most in ACC history. Howell also became the 2nd player in ACC history to throw 6 touchdowns and have a rushing touchdown in the same game.

Howell’s sophomore season continues to impress fans with many seeing the young quarterback as the best to ever play the position in UNC football history.

In just 8 games this season he’s thrown for 2,631 yards, 23 passing touchdowns, 3 rushing touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. Howell currently sits at 61 passing touchdowns in his first 2 seasons, which is only 7 touchdowns shy from Darian Durant UNC’S Football all-time passing touchdown record.

There is no secret the future is bright for Howell with many believing he will be at the minimum a top 10 pick in the 2022 draft if he declares following his junior season.
