The UNC Football program is still out of the Associated Press Top 25 but they are inching closer to returning as they received votes

For the second-straight week, the UNC Football program remains out of the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll.

After beating Duke handedly this week in Durham, North Carolina got back on track after losing to Virginia the prior week. But it wasn’t enough to get them back into the latest AP Top 25 poll with their 5-2 record.

However, the Tar Heels are right there on the brink of being back in the Top 25. UNC did receive 85 votes, the most among teams that are not in the poll essentially putting them at No. 26.

There was a shakeup in the Top 5 after Notre Dame beat Clemson at home on Saturday night in South Bend. Alabama takes over the No. 1 spot followed by No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Clemson and No. 5 Texas A&M.

Florida, Cincinnati, BYU, Miami and Indiana round out the Top 10 in what has been an interesting start to the season. The ACC has just three teams in the poll with Clemson, Notre Dame and Miami.

If the Tar Heels want to get back into the poll they are going to have to win again next Saturday when they take on Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons will enter the game at 4-2 overall but are coming off their bye week. It will be another tough test for the Tar Heels as they hope to win out and only end the regular season with two losses.

UNC isn’t out of the conference race just yet but their chances are getting more and more slim as the weeks go on.
