The UNC Basketball program will find out their fate for this four-star forward as he makes his decision on Friday

Friday will be decision day for four-star forward Trey Kaufman as the Indiana native will officially make his decision as to which college he will be attending. For the UNC Basketball program, Kaufman is one of the lone recruits left on their 2021 recruiting board as they hope to add their third player to the class.

The No. 41 overall recruit in the 247 Sports rankings, Kaufman is a legit scorer that can play the wing and be effective both offensively and defensively. He would be a big get for Williams and his program as a potential multi-year player.

But will they be able to pull him out of the Midwest?

Kaufman is an interesting prospect that has drawn interest from several programs across the country but the thought has always been he would stay in-state.   He narrowed down his list to five schools: Indiana, Purdue, Indiana State, North Carolina and Virginia.

As you see, that list is dominated by three programs in-state but with two Atlantic Coast Conference programs. However, can UNC or Virginia do enough to land him? It’s not likely.

While the Tar Heels made up some ground over the Summer and even earned a visit (Kaufman and his family visited Chapel Hill on their own over the Summer), they weren’t able to officially talk to him or get him to a game. That could hurt their chances.

The other thing that could hurt them is the fact that one thing in this commitment has remained consistent: Kaufman wants to stay close to him.

Advantage Indiana, Purdue or Indiana State.

While Roy Williams and the Tar Heels have been able to pull recruits out of the Midwest before, this probably won’t be the case. But it’s not all their fault. It’s hard to knock the 6-foot-8, 210-pound Kaufman for wanting to play close to him and especially now with a pandemic going on in this country. That makes us believe that when he does pick, it will be Indiana.

Obviously, there could be a sudden change in the recruitment from now until the decision but we don’t expect that.

Here’s what you need to know:

WHAT? Trey Kaufman college decision
WHEN? Friday, October 30th
TIME? 6 p.m. ET
WHERE? Indiana radio
PREDICTION? Indiana

Sadly, it looks lime the Tar Heels will miss out on another prospect in the 2021 class as we believe the Hoosiers will land him. The targets are staring to dwindle for the Tar Heels in this class and Williams will have to make something happen.
