UNC Basketball: Roy Williams COVID beard is now gone
By Zack Pearson
UNC Basketball head coach Roy Williams has officially said goodbye to his beard he grew while quarantining earlier in the Spring
The UNC Basketball program has returned to practice as Roy Williams and his staff are prepping the team for what will be a very unique 2020-21 college basketball season.
While the Tar Heels are coming off a disappointing season a year ago, they are welcoming in a top recruiting class as well as some big talent coming back. But the biggest storyline might just be with the head coach.
We didn’t get to see much of Williams this offseason other than the a few Zoom meetings and his appearance at the first UNC Football game of the year. If you saw Williams, you noticed that the head coach had a new beard he was growing out while he was quarantining in the Spring.
Roy’s COVID beard was awesome and made the waves across the internet for weeks as fans saw the new look. But now we regret to inform you that the beard is officially gone.
The UNC Basketball Twitter account released some photos from the first days of practice, including one of the head coach with a mask on and noticeably no beard:
Part of me was really hoping that Williams was going to keep the beard for the entire season, something we haven’t really seen from him. But we understand, he has to look professional and needed to clean it up.
The Tar Heels will hit the court in November for the first time taking on College of Charleston as well as playing in the Maui Invitational which was moved to Asheville, North Carolina. But other than that, there hasn’t been much about a schedule.
