The UNC basketball program may have a new target on their radar in the 2021 recruiting class as they are set to meet with this forward

Over the past few weeks the options for the UNC basketball program in the 2021 recruiting class have started to diminish. Recruiting targets have made their decisions and although the Tar Heels have two commitments from D’Marco Dunn and Dontrez Styles, Roy Williams is hoping to add another piece to the class.

As it stands now, four players have active offers out in 2021 from the Tar Heels but the program may not be done showing interest in other players just yet. And the latest target could be a big one, literally.

Finland native and 6-foot-9 power forward Mustapha Amzil has only been in the United States for two weeks, but already he’s drawing interest from a few programs. The forward has opted to go the college route instead of the pros and brings a interesting skillset to the college game.

Amzil has landed a few offers recently, most notably from Maryland, Pitt and Oklahoma State but a few other big schools are showing interest as well, including North Carolina. StockRiser’s Jake Weingarten interviewed Amzil this week to talk about his recruitment and he revealed that the Tar Heels are set to have a call with the recruit on Thursday:

"“New schools are coming almost daily. I’m talking with East Carolina, Georgetown, Georgia State, Bradley, USF, WKU, and Eastern Washington. Tomorrow I will have a phone call with North Carolina and more big-time schools are asking for my video.”"

After losing out on a few key recruits, it appeared as if UNC was done reaching out to targets in the 2021 class. They haven’t sent out any official offers lately but Amzil moving to the United States could change that notion.

It’s only been two weeks but his recruitment is going at a rapid pace and this could be a big opportunity for the Tar Heels to land another player in 2021.
