UNC basketball begins practice on Wednesday, set to open up 2020-21 season against College of Charleston

The North Carolina Tar Heels held their first practice of the 2020-21 season on Wednesday, and also announced their first opponent.

They’re set to take on College of Charleston on November 25 at the Dean E. Smith Center. The Cougars finished the 2019-20 season with a 17-14 record, and haven’t played the Tar Heels for a decade. It’s the only confirmed game of the season for North Carolina, other than games to be played in the 2020 Maui Invitational that will begin less than a week later.

As far as practice goes, the NCAA allows programs 42 days to conduct a total of 30 practices. Players are allowed to work out up to 20 hours per week, with a maximum of four hours per day, and must take at least one day off every week.

According to the Tar Heels’ official website, UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham said that the program will have seven non-conference games in addition to the ACC’s 20-game conference schedule. One of those is against Charleston, and three will be in Asheville as part of the Maui Invitational. They’re also expected to play their game against Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic on December 19. There’s also a possibility that UNC will face off with Elon, a game that was previously scheduled for this season.

The Tar Heels return an outstanding front court this season that features senior power forward Garrison Brooks, and sophomore center Armando Bacot. Junior Leaky Black will start at the wing for UNC this season, while the Tar Heels welcome in freshman point guard Caleb Love, and a host of other talented recruits that will provide both skill and depth for Roy Williams’ squad.
