Former UNC Basketball standout Danny Green reveals that he and his fiancee’ received death threats following Game 5.

Before the spotlight returns to the NBA Finals on Sunday night as the Los Angeles Lakers look to close out the Miami Heat, there was a troubling story that broke earlier in the day and it involved former UNC Basketball standout Danny Green.

On Friday night, LeBron James made a pass to an open Green for the final shot to clinch the title as the Lakers trailed. But Green’s shot came up short as his struggles continued.

Now, after the game naturally fans argued that James shouldn’t have even passed to Green (who was open) and instead force a shot. The decision was fine, James actually made the right call on the play. Green just happened to miss.

Here’s where it gets bad.

Green revealed on Sunday morning that he and his fiancee’, Blair Bashen, received death threats following the game.:

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin wrote a piece on the story and broke down what Green said during the press conference:

"“I had to ask, ‘Are you getting death threats?’ And she said, ‘Yeah, you are too,’ and I was like, I don’t know, because I don’t really pay attention or care,” Green said after shootaround Sunday ahead of Game 6. “Nor am I upset, shaken or worried about it. I’m just not one of those types of people. I probably should be a little more paranoid or safe about things.”"

The 33-year-old Green has been struggling and receiving a lot of criticism during and after games on social media. It’s one thing to point out he’s been struggling but it’s absolutely CRAZY to send death threats to him, his family or anyone else associated.

First, it’s a game. It’s not really not life or death and you will be okay if the Lakers lose a game in the series. Second, death threats to anyone are unacceptable and people need to realize this, especially in a world we live in today.

Green is one of the most beloved Tar Heels’ in program history simply for his personality and energy he brought. Danny, Tar Heel nation has your back.

Game 6 of the 2020 NBA Finals takes place on Sunday night with Los Angeles looking to end the series.
