UNC football program among finalists for 3-star tight end Bryson Nesbit

Mack Brown and the North Carolina Tar Heels continue their successful run on the recruiting trail in 2020, making the list of finalists for a highly thought of offensive player in the class of 2021.

Bryson Nesbit, a 3-star tight end from South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, listed North Carolina among five finalists in a tweet on Friday morning. Joining the Tar Heels on Nesbit’s list are a pair of SEC schools, Ole Miss and South Carolina, along with UCLA and Virginia Tech.

The 6-foot-6, 235 pound Nesbit is the No. 386 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He’s 17th among tight ends, and No. 22 in the state of North Carolina. The Top247 values him a bit higher at No. 10 among tight ends. Rivals ranks him as the 18th-best tight end, and No. 15 in his home state.

Nesbit still has some work to do in terms of his instincts and ability to make plays in the open field, but he didn’t even start playing football until his junior year. He’s also likely to get bigger and stronger before getting to the college level. He’s got good hands, and does well in jump-and-catch situations. He’s a a big, possession target that plays a lot like a wide receiver right now, but with some additional physicality and fine-tuning to his game, he projects as a terrific college tight end that has an opportunity to play professionally.

The bad news for UNC fans is that just about everyone is predicting an eventual South Carolina commitment for Nesbit. The Tar Heels are, however, considered one of the main players in his recruitment, and Mack Brown has been on a recruiting tear over the past year that not many coaches have.
