Recent predictions on the Skyy Clark recruitment could spell bad news for the UNC basketball program.

Skyy Clark is one of the hottest names on the North Carolina recruiting board, despite the fact that he’s a 2022 prospect that’s potentially two years away from stepping foot on a college campus.

That’s partially because Clark, a 5-star combo guard that’s considering Kentucky and North Carolina among others, is mulling over a reclassification to the class of 2021. It’s also because his decision to attend one school could directly impact the recruiting class of another, particularly as it relates to UK and UNC.

A Clark reclassification has its own set of impacts on his recruitment, but a commitment to either the Tar Heels or Wildcats could very well alter the path that 2021 combo guard Hunter Sallis takes. Sallis, a fellow 5-star prospect that’s being heavily recruited by both Kentucky and North Carolina, could change course based on Clark’s October 22nd decision.

For some time now, we’ve seen both the Clark and Sallis recruitments as two-horse races between the Tar Heels and Wildcats. Sallis appears to be the stronger Kentucky lean, while Clark is either a UNC lean, or 50-50 at most. Of course, that’s all conjecture, and we’ll know a heck of a lot more in a couple of weeks.

But should a pair of Rivals FutureCast predictions in favor of the Wildcats over the past couple of days give UNC fans cause for concern? Two of the site’s contributors have recently switched their Clark predictions from North Carolina to Kentucky, making you wonder if there’s new information leading them to believe that he’s now favoring the Wildcats. The Tar Heels’ FutureCast edge over the Wildcats is now sitting at 55 to 45, with just over two weeks left before his final decision is announced.
