UNC Football: Tar Heels climb into the Top 10 after 2-0 start
By Zack Pearson
After their 2-0 start to the season, the UNC Football program has climbed inside the Top 10 up four spots in the Associated Press Top 25
The UNC Football program stayed unbeaten in Week 5 after holding off a late rally from Boston College on the road Saturday. With the 2-0 start, UNC is right there atop the Atlantic Coast Conference standings, a place they need to be if they want to earn a spot in the conference title game.
While UNC struggled in that win over Boston College, it was enough to move them up in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll. Well, that and some help from other teams inside the Top 11 that lost.
The Tar Heels moved up four spots from No. 12 to No. 8 in the latest poll released on Sunday, their highest ranking since late in the 2015 season when they had just one loss in November.
The Tar Heels schedule does get tougher here in the month of October as they will play six-straight games without a bye week. They are set to host Virginia Tech on Saturday and then will play at Florida State the following week.
The ACC had a total of five teams in the AP Top 25 but have four inside the Top 10. Clemson again takes the top spot followed by No. 5 Notre Dame, No. 7 Miami and then No. 8 North Carolina. The Hokies checked in at No. 19 after moving to 2-0 with a win over Duke on Saturday.
The polls will certainly start to change soon as the Big Ten is set to return to the field later this month and will be followed by the PAC 12, Mountain West and MAC. But if the Tar Heels keep winning, we could see them stay in the Top 10.
