Top-75 power forward from class of 2022 names UNC basketball program among 10 finalists

Class of 2022 power forward De’Ante Green has named the North Carolina Tar Heels among a list of 10 finalists. He made the announcement via his personal Twitter account on Saturday evening.

Joining the Tar Heels on Green’s list is Baylor, Florida State, Georgia, Gonzaga, Kansas, Louisville, NC State, Tennessee and Wake Forest. A 6-foot-9, 205-pound junior at Christ School in Arden, North Carolina, Green had racked better than two-dozen scholarship offers prior to trimming his list of schools on Saturday.

It’s worth noting that Green doesn’t currently hold an offer from North Carolina. Nor does he hold one from Gonzaga. But he does have offers from each of the other eight schools on his list. That doesn’t mean that an offer from the Tar Heels couldn’t be forthcoming, as it’s still incredibly early in his recruitment. Regardless, it’s a good sign for Roy Williams and company that the top prospect in North Carolina has so much interest in the program.

Green has a good mid-range game, and is an excellent finisher around the rim. He can also step outside and hit shots beyond the three-point line, as well as drive the lane for short shots, layups and dunks. He’s a decent ball-handler for his size and position, and a difference-maker on the defensive side of ball. He’s a terrific rebounder, and can run the floor well in transition.

Green is the No. 75 recruit in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s 15th among power forwards in the class, and No. 1 in the state of North Carolina. The Top247, on the other hand, has Green ranked at No. 33 in the class, and eighth among players at his position. ESPN ranks Green at No. 84 overall, while Rivals pegs him as the 85th-best recruit in the nation.
