The UNC football program is on the decline in the latest Associated Press Top 25.

After not playing a game for two consecutive weeks, the North Carolina Tar Heels dropped one spot to No. 12 in the latest Associated Press Top 25.

Tar Heel fans had hoped to see their team rise in this week’s poll after surprise upsets to multiple top-10 programs. But despite the unlikely losses that cost Oklahoma and LSU their spots in the top-10, the Tar Heels fell a spot.

That’s thanks, in part, to conference foe Miami, who jumped up four spots after an impressive win over Florida State on Saturday. It’s also due to the fact that a pair of Big 10 schools, Ohio State and Penn State, have now been added back to the weekly poll since the announcement that the league will hold a fall season.

Clemson remained No. 1, receiving 1,542 total points, including 55 first-place votes. Alabama is second in the poll, while Florida moved up two spots to No. 3. Georgia is still fourth this week, and Notre Dame rose two spots from seventh to round out the top-5.

Ohio State enters the poll at No. 6, and is followed by Auburn, Miami and Texas at seven through nine, respectively. Penn State joins the poll at No. 10. UCF jumped two spots, passing the Tar Heels for No. 11 this week. Texas A&M is at No. 13, and Pac-12 powerhouse Oregon joins this week’s top 25 poll at No. 14.

The Sooners fell 15 spots to No. 18 after a shocking loss to K-State, while defending national champion LSU dropped 14 spots to 20th after a surprising 10-point loss to formerly unranked Mississippi State (No.16).
