UNC Football: Tar Heels land commitment from three-star offensive tackle
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Football program has landed another commitment, adding this three-star offensive tackle to the 2021 recruiting class
There’s no UNC Football game this week as the program is on their bye week, but the Tar Heels did receiver some good news.
Mack Brown and his staff have once again added to their 2021 recruiting class, landing a big commitment on Friday afternoon. Three-star offensive tackle Diego Pounds announced his college decision and picked the Tar Heels over Penn State.
The Raleigh, North Carolina native made the decision on Friday afternoon doing so on his Instagram account with a special video. Pounds was shown working out and working on his game while going through offers. But then it came down to two programs and he put the Penn State letter down and grabbed the UNC letter to announce his decision.

The 6-foot-6, 305-pound offensive tackle is ranked No. 445 overall, No. 38 at his position and the No. 25 player in the state of North Carolina per 247 Sports. He had a total of 37 offers and cut his list down to 10 including UNC, Penn State, Florida, Auburn and LSU among others but in the end it came down to the Tar Heels and Nittany Lions.
UNC now has its 17th commitment from the 2021 recruiting class as Brown and his staff currently hold the No. 12 overall ranking. They have done a fantastic job of landing in-state talent including 13 players in their class from the state of North Carolina with 11 of those being in the Top 25.
Landing this commitment from Pounds is huge as UNC lost out on offensive tackle Jared Wilson to Georgia a few months back. They now have a legit offensive tackle for the future of their program, adding some depth at that spot.
