A pair of UNC Basketball recruits in the 2020 class have been named as impactful freshmen for the upcoming college basketball season

It appears as if we are going to have a 2020-21 college basketball season but it will be a little different with the start date pushed back and potential games being cut. For the UNC Basketball program, they are hoping to rebound after a difficult 14-19 season a year ago.

The Tar Heels are bringing back a few key pieces including senior Garrison Brooks who took a big step forward in terms of improvement from a year ago. They are also welcoming in a Top 3 recruiting class headlined by a few five-star recruits.

With a six-man class for 2020, the Tar Heels are loaded at all positions. But two players are getting a lot of national attention and most recently from analyst Jon Rothstein.

On his blog CollegeHoopsToday, Rothstein listed his 25 impactful freshmen for the 2020-21 college basketball season. Among the 25 are UNC five-star recruits Caleb Love and Day’Ron Sharpe, two key pieces for the Tar Heels this year.

Here is what Rothstein said about the guard Love:

"Roy Williams brought in an elite recruiting class with several key pieces, but none is more important than the 6-3 Love. The Tar Heels averaged just under 13 turnovers as a team last season and the level of play that they get from Love at point guard could ultimately determine how they bounce back from last season’s 14-19 finish."

And here is Rothstein’s thoughts on Sharpe:

"North Carolina needed reinforcements on the baseline and it brought in a big one in the 6-9 Sharpe. With he, Garrison Brooks, Armando Bacot, and fellow freshman big man Walker Kessler, expect the Tar Heels to be absolutely lethal on the back boards next season. Sharpe should help North Carolina be one of the top rebounding teams in the country in 20-21."

UNC fans already know the talent that is coming in, including Sharpe who was the first player to commit to the Tar Heels’ 2020 class. The big man used to play in North Carolina and has really upped his game over the years as he’s finally hit the college level.

Love on the other hand is UNC’s top-ranked recruit in the class and is a very talented five-star guard that should start right away. He’s received a lot of praise over the course of his high school career and is now ready to be an impactful player right away.

With the hopes of turning things around and getting back on track, this 2020 class should be a good start.
