(5) Chet Holmgren, center

The talented five-star center Chet Holmgren is among the top players in the 2021 recruiting class and is one of those rare talents that doesn’t come around often. Landing a big man like Holmgren would be ideal for the Tar Heels as Roy Williams loves big men that can run in his offense, as we have seen over the years. And Holmgren fits that mold.

The 7-foot center out of Minnesota is not only an excellent rebounder but he’s among the top scorers in the class. Holmgren can do it all on the court and can really score from anywhere including the paint and perimeter.

But where do the Tar Heels stand?

Early on UNC was considered a legit contender to pull Holmgren out of the Midwest but as this recruitment has gone on, that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore. Instead, it’s Gonzaga who appears to be in the driver’s seat and is expected to land him if he doesn’t go to the G-League.

UNC is still in this but they really need to make up a lot of ground late in this recruitment.
