The UNC Football program has lost a key member of their secondary on Thursday morning with a safety being ruled ineligible

This is just a bad news Thursday for the UNC Football program.

First, news broke this morning that North Carolina’s game against Charlotte this Saturday has been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns in the program. The Tar Heels will attempt to find a game for September 26th, their original bye week, but as of now nothing has been announced.

About an hour or so later, more bad news broke. Safety Myles Wolfolk has been ruled academically ineligible according to Inside Carolina.

The site is reporting that Wolfolk has been ruled ineligible as he fell behind on his graduate work this past semester. He will not be allowed to participate with the football program from here on out.

This is a significant loss for the Tar Heels’ secondary as the season has just begun. The graduate has had some bad luck with injuries, suffering a season-ending injury in 2018 and then missing eight games in 2019.

But when Wolfolk has been on the field, he’s been a good playmaker and a key piece to that defense. He’s appeared in 19 career games and has recorded 80 tackles, five interceptions and three tackles for loss in 11 starts.

The Tar Heels will now turn to Cam Kelly and Giovanni Biggers to try and fill the void for Wolfolk’s loss in the secondary.
