UNC Football: Chazz Surratt named ACC Linebacker of the Week
By Zack Pearson
UNC Football linebacker Chazz Surratt has already picked up a honor for his play here early on in the 2020 season for the Tar Heels
It didn’t take long for UNC linebacker Chazz Surratt to earn some recognition in the 2020 college football regular season.
After Surratt was named to several watch lists in the preseason lead up to September’s start, the linebacker earned a conference honor right away. For his efforts in the Week 1 win over Syracuse on Saturday, Surratt was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Linebacker of the Week for Week 1 on Monday.
The senior is playing just his second season at linebacker, making the transition last offseason after spending the first two years playing quarterback. It was a flawless transition for Surratt as he was UNC’s leading tackler and finished the year as the conference’s runner up for defensive player of the year.
In Surratt’s first game in 2020 he finished with 9 tackles, 2 sacks, 2.5 tackles for a loss and a QB hit as UNC got the win over ‘Cuse. He was all over the field in coverage too, showing a strong effort in that area.
The preseason All-ACC selection picked up right where he left off as the anchor to the Tar Heels’ defense as the program has high hopes in making it to the conference title game and possibly some national attention as well.
We have a feeling that this won’t be the only time that Surratt wins this award this season.
