4-star UNC basketball commit Dontrez Styles was dominant for Team CP3 in a recent tournament in Rock Hill.

Dontrez Styles and his AAU squad, Team CP3, were in Rock Hill, South Carolina for a tournament last week, and the 4-star North Carolina commit was impressive, to say the least.

As you can see in the video below, Styles was all over the court in his team’s three-day tournament. They were unbeaten in three games, and much of that was due to the dominant play of Styles, who really showcased his versatility on the offensive end of the court.

He handled the ball well, and used his dribble to get into the lane and score easy buckets. He backed defenders down, and connected on step-back jumpers over their outstretched arms. He ran the court well, and finished alley-oops with reverse layups. He also threw down some impressive dunks, including a 360-degree slam that highlighted the kind of athleticism he’ll bring to Chapel Hill next year.

And as impressive of a performance as it was from Styles, it’s really nothing new. The 6-foot-7, 205-pound junior from Kinston, North Carolina has shown his versatility time and time again in his ability to score the basketball, and consistently hits shots out to the three-point line. He plays tenacious defense, and uses his athleticism to impact the game in a myriad of ways. He plays with a tremendous amount of energy and effort, which will fit well into the Tar Heels’ fast-paced, up-and-down style of play. He’s a terrific rebounder, and uses his size well in the paint. His ball handing skills are improving, though they still need some work. So, too, does his ability to shoot beyond the arc, but he’s got time to focus on both before arriving on campus a year from now.

All of that, and Styles doesn’t appear to have even hit his ceiling. He’s improved his 247Sports Composite ranking by 69 spots since this time last year, and 24 spots just since the start of 2020. That puts him at No. 52 overall in the class of 2021, 12th among players at his position and No. 1 in the state of North Carolina. Not only that, but Styles is also up to No. 55 in the latest ESPN 100, where he has a scout grade of 85.

Styles is currently the only member of the Tar Heels’ 2021 recruiting class, though Roy Williams and company are working tirelessly to change that. Despite who joins him in next year’s class, and who remains on the roster after this season, look for Styles to get his minutes. He’s got the kind of skill, tenacity and versatility that will earn him minutes no matter where he’s at, or who he’s playing with.
