Zac Gallen has once again made history to start his MLB career on Friday night. Find out what the former UNC Baseball standout accomplished

Former UNC Baseball standout Zac Gallen is quietly having one of the best seasons among all pitchers in Major League Baseball. Despite it being a condensed 60-game season, Gallen has been really good for the Arizona Diamondbacks and on Friday night he made some history.

Gallen took the hill against the San Francisco Giants at Chase Field, hoping to help end the D-Backs eight-game losing streak. He ended the game doing so while making that history. The win 7-4 win for the Diamondbacks gave Gallen his first win of the season as he gave up five hits and one earned run.

The one earned run marked the 22nd-straight start that he has allowed three earned runs or less dating back to his debut with the Miami Marlins a year ago. He broke the previous record of 21 games held by Aaron Sele in 1993-94 for the Boston Red Sox.

The 25-year-old Gallen has been fantastic for a Diamondbacks team that is really struggling to start the year. They sit at 14-19 and at the bottom fo the NL West standings as the trade deadline approaches.

They are a team that could sell off some pieces ahead of Monday’s deadline but Gallen appears to be safe. He’s a player that you would love to have as a No. 2 or No. 3 starter for the future, giving you a big boost in your rotation.
