The UNC Football program cracks the Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll which was released on Monday ahead of the new season

It was a just over a week ago when the UNC Football program claimed a Top 25 spot in the first USA Today Coaches Poll for the upcoming season. Now, Mack Brown’s Tar Heels have landed in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 poll.

The first poll for what will be a very unique and different 2020 college football season has been released on Monday just a few weeks from the start of the year. The Tar Heels were No. 19 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and have moved up one spot in the AP Poll, debuting at No. 18.

Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson took the top spot followed by No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Alabama, No. 4 Georgia, and No. 5 Oklahoma.  Notre Dame, who is joining the ACC for this one year, is at No. 10, and is the only other team in the conference besides Clemson and North Carolina to be in the poll.

While the Big Ten and PAC-12 have no plans on playing this Fall and will try for the Spring, voters were instructed to include those teams on their ballots for the upcoming season. If you take away the six teams represented by the two conferences, UNC would move up even more and just be outside of the Top 10.

Going into this season, the Tar Heels were a team that was receiving a lot of hype and excitement after what they did last season. In Brown’s first year back, the Tar Heels went 7-6 but had wins over South Carolina, Miami, Duke, N.C. State and won their first bowl game since 2013.

With the talent returning, the Tar Heels should be a contender for the 2020 ACC Championship Game as the conference will take the top two teams this year.
