UNC Football: Chazz Surratt earns praise from CBS Sports

UNC Football linebacker Chazz Surratt earns some more national honors ahead of the 2020 college football season earlier in the week
The 2020 college football season will be a unique one, to say the least. With the Big Ten and PAC-12 opting out, the UNC Football program along with the rest of the Atlantic Coast Conference still plans to play. The worry of some COVID-19 outbreaks on campus also play a factor but as of now, the Tar Heels are going to play.
All offseason the Tar Heels have been a team that many predict will be a dark horse to challenge for one of the spots in the ACC Championship Game. The hype is well deserved as the Tar Heels showed some signs of improvement in Mack Brown’s first season back as head coach. And they did so behind quarterback Sam Howell and the offense as well as linebacker Chazz Surratt and the defense.
On Friday, Surratt earned some more national recognition as he was named to the CBS Sports All-America First Team.
The linebacker was the only player on UNC’s roster to be named to the list which featured 26 programs that ARE playing football this season. Although, his head coach Brown received votes for coach of the year.
Surratt had a breakout season in 2019 and did so in his first year playing quarterback. He spent the first two seasons of his career at quarterback. The linebacker finished second in the ACC with tackles, finishing as an All-ACC First Team Selection and the runner up for the conference’s defensive player of the year award.
Going into this season, Surratt’s draft stock is as high as a projected second rounder but he has the chance to improve that as the year goes on.
