A 2023 recruit says he wants to hear from the UNC Basketball program in his recruitment but it’s still pretty early and there is a long way to go

The focus for Roy Williams and his UNC Basketball staff is still on the 2021 and 2022 recruiting classes after they turned in an impressive Top 2 class in 2020. The Tar Heels have identified their top targets with scholarship offers in both classes but it won’t be long before they start doing more homework on the 2023 class.

Williams has yet to offer a recruit in the 2023 class, which isn’t shocking as he likes to wait a little bit and get into the cycle more.

But already, there is one recruit who is hoping to hear from the Tar Heels in that 2023 class and he’s making that a point.

Point guard Jeremiah Johnson only has two offers so far in his recruitment, landing them from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State but the Oklahoma City native is starting to make a name for himself and is gunning for more. Among the teams that Johnson would eventually like to hear from is the Tar Heels as he listed UNC in a recent interview with 247 Sports:

"“I’d like to hear from Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Purdue and Vanderbilt,” he told 247Sports.While 247Sports has yet to release rankings for the class of 2023, given Johnson’s blend of quickness, feel, playmaking and scoring ability for his age, he is tracking as a four-star prospect in the class."

As you can see above, the Tar Heels are mentioned with some blue bloods in Duke and Kansas as well as the Big Ten’s Purdue and former standout Jerry Stackhouse who is coaching Vanderbilt.

It’s still very early in the recruiting cycle for Johnson and the 2023 class as there is a long way to go but hearing him say he wants to hear from UNC is interesting. There’s certainly some interest there and it’s something we should keep an eye on in the coming months.
