The UNC Basketball program beat out Duke for the top spot on this recent list of coaching jobs in the Atlantic Coast Conference last week

The rivalry between the UNC Basketball program and Duke rarely takes a back seat to anything as the Blue Blood programs don’t really like one another. We have seen some intense battles between the two programs over the years no matter what the records on.

There is a lot of history with legendary coaches, players, and games taking place for decades now and a lot of the times, the rivalry spills out into lists and rankings.

The latest battle between the two teams came in a recent article by Rivals’ Dan McDonald. The recruiting analyst recently ranked the best jobs in college basketball by conference and on Friday, McDonald broke down the Atlantic Coast Conference jobs with the two Blue Blood rivals ranking 1-2. But only one program could take the top spot and that belongs to the Tar Heels.

McDonald listed North Carolina as the best basketball job in all of the ACC, beating out Duke for the top spot.

Here is what McDonald had to say about putting UNC ahead of Duke:

"There isn’t much doubt what the two best jobs would be in the ACC, but which school claims the top spot definitely can be the subject of a heated debated on Tobacco Road. Let’s go with North Carolina here in a very close call. The Tar Heels have now won multiple national championships with multiple coaches. It’s arguably the biggest brand in the sport. Plus, we’ll give the nod to the Chapel Hill campus over Duke’s campus in Durham."

He makes some solid points. You could make an argument for Duke in the top spot but UNC has won more national championships and has done it with more coaches too, spreading out their success. Being able to sustain success over the years is crucial and very rarely do the Tar Heels have down years like the one we saw last season.

Plus, add in the Jordan Brand sponsorship with that classic Carolina Blue and argyle look and you have something special. I mean, have you seen those awesome colorways of retro Air Jordan’s for the players? Heck, even Roy gets special shoes as well!

Sorry Duke, but we will take this one and agree with McDonald on his list.
