Five-star point guard and UNC Basketball recruiting target Kennedy Chandler will make his decision on Friday afternoon. What are the Tar Heels’ chances?

The UNC Basketball program will soon know their fate for one of their top targets in the 2020 recruiting class.

Five-star point guard Kennedy Chandler is set to make his verbal commitment to a program on Friday afternoon. Chandler revealed earlier Friday morning that he is set to commit at 1 p.m. EST and will do so on ESPN as well as his Instagram Live.

Here is what Chandler tweeted out on Friday morning:

With rumors swirling for weeks that Chandler is close to a decision, it shouldn’t come to anyone’s surprise that it is happening today. However, this isn’t good news for the Tar Heels.

Chandler recently cut his list down to five schools listing the Tar Heels, Duke Blue Devils, Kentucky Wildcats, Tennessee Volunteers and Memphis Tigers as his finalists. Each of those five schools have been in pursuit of Chandler for months now but it appears as if the Volunteers are the favorites to land him.

The Tar Heels did meet with Chandler earlier in the week, perhaps a last ditch effort to land him.

The No. 11 overall ranked recruit, Chandler has hinted in the past that he wants to take visits to all five of his finalists. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic forcing the NCAA to impose a dead period on visits, Chandler was unable to get to Chapel Hill. That’s a big disadvantage for the Tar Heels and let’s say a team like Duke as well.

dark. Next. Tar Heels on outside looking in for five-star?
