The UNC Basketball program was listed as a team to watch for this four-star power forward in the 2021 recruiting class

Class of 2021 power forward Trey Kaufman has seen his recruitment hit another level over the past month or so and that included an offer from Roy Williams and the UNC Basketball program.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Kaufman has a total of 11 offers in his recruitment including some from big programs. In addition to UNC offering, Indiana, Purdue, Louisville and Virginia are among his 11 offers so far.

While Kaufman was a standout over the weekend at a tournament in Indiana, his stock is starting to rise in the 2021 class. He’s currently ranked as the No. 58 overall recruit, No. 13 power forward and the No. 2 player in the state of Indiana per 247 Sports. Kaufman is starting to be a hot recruit on the trail and has a number of big programs after him.

But who leads as it stands now?

Some may think it’s in-state Indiana, a program that has been recruiting him for a long time and hoping to pull in some of the top talent in the Hoosier State. But that might not be the case according to one recruiting analyst.

Rivals’ analyst Corey Evans was asked about Kaufman’s recruitment in his latest Twitter Tuesday mailbag and who is in the best shape. Evans mentioned Indiana as well as UNC:

"One would have to assume that if Kaufman was going to commit to Indiana, it would have happened already. It is never easy to be declared the favorite so early in the process and remain the leader for a long time. North Carolina offered last week so it is definitely one to watch, as is Virginia, a program that has remained involved for Kaufman for the past year and has a need in the frontcourt that is tailored for Kaufman’s abilities. With word going around that Kaufman might want to leave his state for college and with UNC’s latest offer, Indiana’s chances have begun to dwindle."

Evans dropped an interesting note in there about Kaufman potentially leaving the state of Indiana and playing elsewhere. That certainly makes the Tar Heels an intriguing option as a Blue Blood program to land him.

With UNC needing some help in the post after the 2020 season, Kaufman would be an ideal fit for Williams and his team. Landing another recruit out of the Midwest would be a big score for the Tar Heels.
