UNC Football: Top 5 Tar Heel Teams In The Last 40 Years

Before we get to whose number 1 on the list we can’t ignore some of the great teams that were right on cuffs of the top 5.
The 1993 Tar Heel Football team led by head coach Mack Brown was one to remember after finishing 10-3 overall and 6-2 in the conference. This team averaged 33.2 points per game ranking 15th out of 106 schools while giving up an average of 19.5 points per game ranking 32nd out of 106 schools. They, unfortunately, lost the Gator Bowl to Alabama 24-10, but with a win % of .769, there was no way this list could go without them.
The other honorable mention honors go to the 1982 Tar Heels led by head coach Dick Crum. The 1982 Heels had an overall record of 8-4 while going 3-3 in conference finishing in the AP poll ranked 18. Despite not so impressive record the defense was fierce giving up an average of 12.6 points per game which ranked 6th out of 113 schools. They would go on to win the Sun Bowl 26-10 over Texas earning them an honorable mention.
