UNC Basketball: Tar Heels to meet with Kennedy Chandler on Monday
Roy Williams, UNC basketball program set to meet with 5-star point guard Kennedy Chandler on Monday night
North Carolina head coach Roy Williams and his staff are expected to hold a virtual meeting with class of 2021 prospect Kennedy Chandler and his family on Monday night. Stockrisers’ Jake Weingarten first reported news of the meeting, which was supposed to take place last week, but was rescheduled for a later date.
The 5-star point guard named a list of five finalists in late April that includes Duke, Kentucky, Memphis, North Carolina and Tennessee. All signs currently point toward a commitment to the Volunteers, given that 100 percent of college basketball insiders and recruiting analysts from Rivals and 247Sports have pegged Knoxville as his eventual college destination.
Chandler is the nation’s top-ranked back court prospect, and an incredibly important target for the Tar Heels. Despite having 5-star point guard Caleb Love committed to the program for 2020, there’s no guarantee that he’ll remain on campus beyond his freshman season. That’s where Chandler, a gifted scorer and facilitator, would come in handy for Williams and company next year.
The 6-foot-1, 160-pound Chandler, who left Briarcrest Christian for Sunrise Christian Academy after his junior season, is ranked 11th in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite for 2021. He’s No. 1 among point guards in the class, and tops in the state of Kansas.
