5. 2010-11 (29-8)

The 2011 team was special and exhilarating because it was the freshman year of Harrison Barnes and Kendall Marshall. The team was loaded with talent around these two freshmen, but UNC fans getting a grasp for what was entering the program made watching this team succeed so enjoyable.

On top of the freshman class, it was John Henson’s breakout season where he showcased his ability to dominate on both ends of the floor.

This team didn’t see immediate success, starting the season with a record of just 4-3, but the 29-8 finish to the season shows how capable this group of guys was. The Heels were the regular season ACC champions, and lost to Duke in the ACC Tournament Championship. They were an Elite Eight team that lost a nail biter to a Kentucky team led by Terrence Jones and Brandon Knight.

What made this team so memorable was how everyone mastered their role. Marshall facilitated, Zeller and Barnes put the ball in the hoop, and Henson dominated the low post.
