9. 2013-14 (24-10)

What a blessing it is to be a Tar Heel fan when the ninth-best team of the last ten years went 24-10 and finished third in the ACC standings. This team had some special moments, as they knocked off No. 1 Michigan State, No. 3 Louisville, No. 5 Duke, and No. 11 Kentucky, but all those wins came in the regular season.

When it comes to Tar Heel basketball, the season will always be based on postseason success, and this team failed to thrive when the games mattered most. UNC failed to win a single game in the ACC tournament and was exited in the Round of 32 of the NCAA tournament.

This team would be extremely successful from the standpoint of a regular program, but UNC basketball is held to a different standard that this team didn’t quite reach. It would, however, be a building block for future successes, both in the regular season and in the NCAA Tournament.

This team was led by Marcus Paige, who averaged 17.5 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds, and James Michael McAdoo, who averaged 14.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
