UNC Basketball: Ranking the last ten Tar Heel basketball teams
By Carson Brown
10. 2019-2020 (14-19)
The easiest part of creating this list was putting this team as the worst of the last ten years. A season that had such high hopes took a quick turn in the wrong direction when Cole Anthony needed surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus in December of 2019.
The team went 8-16 after Anthony went out including a seven-game losing streak in February. This season is arguably the worst season in UNC basketball history. The 19 losses rank as the most ever in Tar Heel history, and the 15th-place finish in the ACC standings is also the lowest place a UNC team has ever ended a season.
The collegiate season wasn’t finished due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but there was no bid to the NCAA tournament coming to UNC regardless. It would’ve been the first NCAA tournament in nine years without the Tar Heels.
There were a few bright moments for the Heels, as they knocked off No.11 Oregon and took a very talented Duke team to overtime in Chapel Hill, but it wasn’t the usual season fans would expect from the Tar Heels.
