1. 2016-2017 (33-7)

This is the only team on this list that had their season end with a win, and that’s why they top the rankings for the best Tar Heel team in the last ten years.

What made this season extra special was that it was a revenge tour from what happened the year before when UNC lost at the buzzer in the NCAA title game to Villanova. All season long it felt like this team wouldn’t stop working until the trophy was on its way back to Chapel Hill.

This team didn’t win the ACC Tournament, but that’s irrelevant when the outcome of the season ends with a trophy and some new bling for your hands. These Tar Heels had a plethora of talent, and they worked together in perfect unity. Joel Berry was an exceptional leader, and Justin Jackson was incredible as the team’s top offensive option.

The Tar Heels’ big men were talented, and all played their role. Between Kennedy Meeks, Isaiah Hicks, Tony Bradley, Theo Pinson, and Luke Maye, this team wasn’t going to be stopped.
