2. 2011-12 (32-6)

This 2012 team is personally my favorite college basketball team of all time, and the way it ended will always make me a little sad inside. This was a team that should’ve won a national championship, but losing Kendall Marshall in the NCAA Tournament prevented that from happening.

The Tar Heels competed every time they stepped onto the court, and they made the game of basketball always look so fun. Kendall Marshall was a very talented facilitator, and his leadership was always evident. The front court of Harrison Barnes, John Henson, and Tyler Zeller may be one the best in college basketball history.

Even though the season didn’t end with a trophy and a handful of nylon, this team was still amazing. They were the regular season ACC champions, and made it to the championship game of the ACC Tournament. They were a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament, and didn’t lose until the Elite Eight when they were defeated by Thomas Robinson and the Kansas Jayhawks.

It was an incredible season with an unfortunate ending, but this team will never be forgotten among UNC basketball fans; no matter how painful it might be.
