UNC Football: Tar Heels target Payton Page to announce Tuesday
By Zack Pearson
Will the Tar Heels be able to land a big commitment from four-star defensive tackle Payton Page on Tuesday? Our primer gets you ready.
The North Carolina Tar Heels football team will have a chance to add another recruit to their 2021 football recruiting class this week and it could be a big score for the program.
With a 2021 class that ranks inside the Top 10 already with 17 verbal commitments led by quarterback Drake Maye, defensive end Keeshawn Silver, receiver Gavin Blackwell and linebacker RaRa Dillworth. But on Tuesday, a big four-star recruit will make his decision and the Tar Heels are in the running.
Defensive tackle Payton Page is ranked No. 80 overall, No. 7 at his position and the No. 4 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247 Sports recruiting rankings. Page enters Tuesday’s decision down to three teams: Clemson, North Carolina and Tennessee. Going into this decision, it appears as if the Tigers are the favorites with Tennessee might being their biggest competition according to Steve Wiltfong.
However, that was back in July and things may have changed in UNC’s favor.
While UNC may not be the favorite, they may have made a late push to put themselves in a solid position to land the four-star recruit. Clemson does lead the Crystal Ball predictor but most of the predictions hover with a 6 confidence.
Page would certainly be a big get for all three programs as he’s one of the best defensive tackles in the country. But staying home to play in North Carolina would be a huge boost for the Tar Heels’ defense. Especially after they missed out on Zaire Patterson (Clemson) and George Wilson (South Carolina) over the past two months. Will Page stay home and shock some people with a UNC commit? Stay tuned.
