The UNC Basketball program has a 2023 point guard recruit on their radar and it’s a big in-state prospect out of Charlotte

A lot of the focus is on the 2021 and 2022 recruiting classes for the UNC Basketball program as they look to build on a Top 2 class from the 2020 cycle. But that doesn’t mean that Roy Williams and his staff haven’t looked at 2023 yet.

While the Tar Heels have yet to offer a recruit in the 2023 class, they do have their eyes on at least one point guard in the class.

Andrew Jones of Tar Heel Illustrated wrote a few updates on the Tar Heels’ basketball recruiting trail, including some notes about potential new prospects. One of those recruits was point guard Robert Dillingham.

The Charlotte, North Carolina native doesn’t have a star ranking yet on Rivals as it’s still very early for the site to update for the 2023 class but that doesn’t mean he isn’t talented. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound guard has shown he can be a dynamic player with impressive scoring abilities.

And the Tar Heels are apparently taking notice.

Jones wrote that Dillingham has had some conversations with UNC and is coached by former guard Jeff McInnis:

"At 6-foot-1 and 160 pounds, Dillingham has a handful of Division One offers, including from South Florida, but he’s been in conversations with some elite programs, as well, including Kansas and recently UNC.Being coached by McInnis has helped enhance Dillingham’s full awareness of the UNC program and what it’s like playing for the Tar Heels.“It’s great because he’s (McInnis) already been there and been through it,” Dillingham told THI. “So, he’s teaching me his ways and how to become a better player.”"

Dillingham has a total of 5 offers in his recruitment and a few other programs showing interest including from UNC, Kansas and Tennessee. The Tar Heels have yet to offer the recruit but the way things are going, that should eventually change.

While it’s still very early in Dillingham’s recruitment, UNC showing that interest for a point guard is significant. We expect the interest to continue to be there and the pursuit to ramp up for the Tar Heels over time.
