UNC Football: Michael Carter named to Hornung award watch list
By Zack Pearson
UNC Football running back Michael Carter has been named to the Hornung Award Watch list for the upcoming 2020 college football season
A big storyline for UNC Football’s 2019 season was just how good their offense really was under Mack Brown and coordinator Phil Longo. The Tar Heels showed drastic improvement after two tough years in 2017 and 2018.
As the 2020 season looms, most of UNC’s offense will return for another year including a few key playmakers. One of those players is running back Michael Carter.
The Florida native is entering his senior season with the Tar Heels in 2020 and is expected to have another big season. Before the year starts Carter is already gaining some national recognition.
Carter was one of 50 players named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List last week, which honors the most versatile player in major college football each year. It’s presented by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound running back is coming off a 2019 season in which he rushed for 1,003 yards and 154 receiving yards.Carter finished fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference with 1,623 all-purpose yards, and earned third team All-ACC honors last season.
He did this while splitting time in the backfield with fellow running back Javonte Williams as well last season. Both were named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List earlier in July.
Carter is a key piece to UNC’s offense and is one of the most dynamic players in all of college football. He has the chance to take it to the house every time he touches the football and has developed into a big playmaker for UNC’s offense.
The winner for the Paul Hornung Award will be announced in March of 2021.
