UNC Football quarterback Sam Howell adds another preseason award watch list to his growing resume as he enters his sophomore season
The college football preseason award watch lists continue and another UNC Football player finds himself on a list.
After linebacker Chazz Surratt appeared on two different watch lists last week including for the nation’s top defensive player, his teammate on the other side of the football is making another appearance on a list.
North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell was one of 90 players to make the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award announced on Friday. The Maxwell Award is given out each year to honor the Collegiate Player of the Year.

Last week, Howell was named to the Davey O’Brian preseason watch list for the top quarterback in college football.
Howell is entering his sophomore season in Chapel Hill and is coming off a historic freshman campaign for the Tar Heels. He helped lead the team to a 7-6 record, throwing for 3,641 yards, 38 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. His freshman season ranked among not only the best in program history but the best for a true freshman in all of college football.
The quarterback set a new ACC and FBS single-season record for a true freshman with his 38 passing touchdowns in 2019. Entering 2020, Howell and the Tar Heels have high hopes and would love to reach Charlotte as winners of the Coastal Division. The quarterback also would love to make some noise on the national stage and contend for a Heisman.
