Trent Thornton

Current Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Trent Thronton pitched in front of the UNC faithful in 2013, and 2014 before being drafted to the Houston Astros in 2015.

Thornton, still very young, excelled at his time in Carolina where in his freshman year he played outstanding giving him freshman All-American honors after his amazing 1.37 ERA 91.2 innings pitched which is 12th best in school history. His 12 wins are a freshman Carolina record and tied overall for fifth-best all-time in program history. His sophomore season was not as impressive, but still proved to be a winner with a 7-4 record with an ERA of 2.73.

Thornton is still finding his groove with a 6-9 record and an ERA of 4.84. The hope is Thornton takes a big step in his career and can be a serviceable pitcher for the Blue Jays as they continue to look for a permanent place to play their home games in 2020.

The Blue Jays will open up the season in Tampa Bay Friday night to play the division rival Rays in a three-game set.
